Hawaii’s Smart Yields eyes China for ag-tech expansion

Honolulu-based agricultural technology company Smart Yields is eyeing China as a key location for its future expansion plans.

Smart Yields CEO Vince Kimura told <em>Pacific Business News</em> on Friday that the startup is already in talks with a Chinese company to build farms in Hong Kong, Taiwan and the Fujian province of Southeastern China. He said the company is also looking at partnering with a group in Vietnam.

Kimura said China’s increasing focus on food safety makes it a key location in the startup’s growth strategy.

“Growers need to make sure that they have complete transparency across the entire food-supply chain,” he said. “All of those things are basically what we’re doing.”
